Wouter Johan van Leeuwen

“Context, form, language… If a thought were a character, would you be able to talk to it? I wonder about things... I respond...”

Wouter Johan van Leeuwen (Utrecht 1986) is an artist based in the Hague the Netherlands.

He has already proven himself to be a reflective artist: “I waste most of my time (ruminating, deliberating, day-dreaming and reading). In addition, I think it is important to study other artists, philosophers and writers. The actual making of my art usually does not consume so much time. I wouldn’t like that, because the purity of the idea would diminish. A consequence of focusing on the idea in this way is that I do not have a fixed medium. After all, every idea demands its own implementation.”

Wouter Johan van Leeuwen is the conceptual artist who gives an impulse to deliberation: “A constant in my work is its minimalistic character. This is because I think that too much image often distracts from the essence. I am concerned with conveying the idea as purely as possible, a choice must always be logical.”
